SEE THE LIGHT IN WATERCOLOUR
Residential Painting Breaks in Beautiful West Sussex | Art Tuition
| | Patsy has been teaching for many years and enjoys helping students, whether beginners or more experienced artists, to realise their creative potential.
With a friendly, relaxed and patient teaching manner, Patsy encourages her students to draw and paint in their own personal style, while demonstrating and explaining how an understanding of techniques and materials can make the process simpler and more enjoyable. | She is a great believer that, however figurative, a painting should be an adventure, approached with courage, an enquiring mind and a sense of humour!
Patsy runs all day Art Workshops on a monthly basis for students at all levels and One-to-One watercolour and drawing classes, the timing and content tailored to suit the needs of the individual.
She also gives demonstrations to art societies and groups and runs watercolour classes onboard cruise ships.
Over the years, Patsy has organised a variety of group painting holidays, at home and abroad. A week in Venice with daily sunshine, a delightful villa set in its own walled garden, with delicious al fresco evening dining, was possibly one of the most memorable!
"Yesterday I spent a very enjoyable day at Patsy Moore?s art workshop in Wisborough Green - an ideal venue. Having watched a helpful demonstration, received advice on my own painting from Patsy, eaten a lovely lunch (included) with homemade bread, all prepared by Patsy, I felt that I had spent a very beneficial day."

Art Workshop
| The Wisborough Art Workshop is an event, not simply an art class, with shared ideas and opportunities to experiment and improve with diverse techniques and materials. The Workshop days are aimed at all levels of expertise, from total beginners to experienced artists and support most two-dimensional art mediums.
Our base is Wisborough Green Village Hall RH14 0DU which is set beside St Peter ad Vincula Church, (A272 between Billingshurst and Petworth). When fine weather allows, there are plenty of sketching and painting opportunities around the green in our beautiful village. | | These whole day events are held 10am until 4pm Fridays, on more or less a monthly basis. The cost for the whole day is ?25.00.
Included in the price is a delicious lunch of meats, cheeses, salads, varieties of freshly baked home-made bread and a glass of wine or soft drinks. (coffee, tea and biscuits available all day)
At the Workshop there is plenty to keep you inspired and busy! A ?sitter? is usually present, for figure drawing and painting. Also a couple of still lifes are set up. You will also find a great quantity of A4 coloured reference photos if you are in need of inspiration. Art equipment and materials are available for you to borrow, if necessary.
During the day, Patsy will be able to give a short drawing or painting demonstration, or illustrated discussions are held on particular art tips or techniques. Also, an ?art and artist appreciation? section is sometimes on display; together with current art magazines, articles and news. Painting demonstrations on DVD are available for you to watch whenever you like.
There is a monthly art-based prize quiz for you to take away and tax your brains with and also a DVD library, from which you can borrow for the forthcoming month.
Each month, you will receive a newsletter, either on the day or posted/emailed to you, keeping you up to date with activities in the workshop and news of events and exhibitions.
Several times each year Patsy organises group visits to major exhibitions and galleries in London - always a good day out, rounded off by an enjoyable lunch!
It is not necessary to book a place on each of the Workshop days, nor are you required to pay in advance. Just come along, pay on the day and enjoy!

1 to 1 Art | If one or more of the following statements applies to you, Patsy is sure she can help you progress beyond your expectations!
?I don?t know how to get started.? ?I need help choosing the right materials.? ?My colours look dull and flat.? ?I can?t make my paintings look 3 dimensional.? ?Perspective seems so complicated.? ?I can?t capture a ?likeness? in portraits.? ?I don?t know how to create good composition.? ?How do you paint texture?? ?Everyone else seems better than me!? and of course ?I can?t draw a straight line.?
| | Other drawing and painting difficulties also catered for! Patsy believes the secret of successful drawing and painting lies in ?seeing what you are looking at? and using your eyes more than your brain. Your own personal ?style? should be encouraged, based upon clear understanding of form, colour mixing, drawing and painting technique etc. You may be a complete beginner in either drawing or painting, or may be having difficulty with particular techniques. Whichever your situation, these classes are tailored to your own individual needs and you can work at a pace at which you feel comfortable. As their title suggests, these classes comprise individual one-to-one tuition, with an emphasis on specific subjects that appeal to you, be they landscape, seascape, still life, flowers, portraiture and more. They will, however, be restricted to drawing or watercolour painting.
Classes are arranged by appointment. The duration of each class is 1hr 30mins. The cost for each session is ?25.00, payable on the day. (Cash or cheque only, please.)
For beginners, drawing and/or painting materials will be provided on the first session, during which we can discuss useful equipment to buy. Beyond this stage, students are requested to bring their own materials. An easel, drawing board, paper, pencils, graphite and water pot will be available for use. For your first session, you will be asked, where applicable, to bring along some previous work, in order to assess style, standard, areas of interest and personal challenges. Please note that there is no set duration for a course of classes. You may wish to attend for just one session to address a particular technique or ?problem area?, or you may prefer a series of classes, during which we can track your progress and improvement. The choice is yours.
Come prepared to make progress and surprise yourself with the speed of your improvement!
"Six months ago, I returned to painting and it soon became clear that, without help, my enthusiasm would fall away. I discovered Patsy, who has inspired me to paint effectively again in watercolours and to get pleasure from the results. Her guidance on colour mixing, colour relationships, composition, brushwork, perspective, preparation and so much more has been so valuable." Ralph Fanshawe, West Sussex |
Art Groups
| Patsy is often asked to give painting demonstrations to art societies and groups. She also leads workshops with art groups, usually preceded by a brief illustrated talk on a particular technique or use of materials.
Art societies are also catered for on painting days out, on which Patsy will tutor a group in a location of mutual choice. Where weather permits, students will be encouraged to sketch and paint en plein air, but it is advised for a group to book a suitable hall or room in case of inclement weather, in which case she will give a demonstration and run a workshop. Whether inside or out, the day, from 10 am until 4 pm, usually begins with a brief talk and technique demonstration and ends with an encouraging critique. | | Contact Patsy to book an art society demonstration, workshop or tutored day out.
"Patsy Moore has proved to be very popular amongst our membership, both for her accomplished presentations and her warm, engaging manner. Patsy always manages to combine good practical tips on a general subject with specific guidance on a one-to-one basis."
Terry Collins, Chairman Felpham Art Group |
Cruise Teaching
| | Patsy enjoys sharing her love of sketching and painting around the world with art classes at sea. Working with a variety of cruise lines, she provides a programme of classes adapted to the duration and itinerary of each particular voyage. Depending upon the size of the ship, classes can vary in size from 15 to 90! However, with a helpful assistant at her side, Patsy is able to give each student individual attention and encouragement, as well as giving demonstrations and tips to the class as a whole.
In general, the classes onboard are free to attend and are for all abilities. The ships usually provide an art materials pack at a modest price. Patsy brings quantities of photographic reference material from which to paint, relevant to the sights and experiences of the voyage you are taking. | The course concludes with an exhibition of work by all participating students and is always the subject of admiration and envy of other cruisers!
Whether the brochure of a cruise you are considering mentions art classes or not, Patsy?s advice is to include a few watercolour and drawing materials in your luggage if you have them. With all the inspiration of the fabulous places you will visit, you will not regret it.
Patsy is off on 10th January 2013, sailing across a hopefully calm Atlantic to New York, onboard Cunard's Queen Victoria. This beautiful ship promises large attendances at two daily art sessions! Busy, but great fun.
On 8th April 2013, Patsy will be joining "MV Voyager" (Voyages of Discovery) in Montego Bay, Jamaica to sail to the Cayman Islands, Cuba, Bahamas, Bermuda and homewards via the Azores to England for 29th April. Are you tempted to join her and the art classes onboard this beautiful ship (smallish, but spacious)? If so, here is a link to the website: www.voyagesofdiscovery.co.uk. The cruise name is "Islands of the Atlantic".
"We joined Patsy Moore?s class onboard P&O Arcadia and were soon addicted to her daily sessions. Any misgivings we had about our abilities to draw and paint were soon overcome by her enthusiastic teaching style. Patsy covered, step by step, different aspects of sketching, colour mixing and watercolour techniques. We were always encouraged to try these out in our own style. Patsy was very approachable; always positive about our attempts, however negative we were feeling. Our confidence grew and grew. Watercolour painting has now become a favourite pastime."

Painting Holidays | Spring Break: Friday 31st May - Monday 3rd June 2013 Autumn Break: Friday 20th - Monday 23rd September 2013 Why not join Patsy on one of two long weekends of painting pleasure? Each of these Friday to Monday painting breaks will follow the same path. We shall be discovering watercolour techniques and improving our painting skills. Sharing enthusiasm, experiences and ideas with fellow artists is a positive and exhilarating way to enjoy this wonderful pastime.
Set in the heart of the South Downs National Park, the picturesque village of Lodsworth is our base from which to explore and be inspired by the delightful rolling West Sussex countryside, villages, marine subjects and historic towns close by.
These watercolour painting breaks are suitable for all levels of expertise, from complete beginners to the experienced artist. By keeping the groups relatively small, (maximum 12 painting guests), the aim is to give plenty of encouragement, guidance and support to each student in a relaxed and friendly manner.
You will be staying in one of the luxury holiday cottages in a beautiful rural setting on the Cowdray estate, just a couple of minutes' drive from Lodsworth. Click on the 'Links' page to see the Cowdray holiday cottages and what they have to offer.

Non painting partners are also welcome and Cowdray Park and surrounding areas have much to offer those who prefer to walk, play golf, shop, sightsee etc. Cowdray give concessions to residents for a variety of activities and pre-course local information can be sent to you, upon booking, to plan an enjoyable stay.
Our aim is to paint outside 'en plein air' as much as the vagaries of the English weather will allow. If necessary, we shall be able to paint indoors. Most painting guests usually bring their own equipment and materials. However, materials can be lent or supplemented as required. If in doubt, advice is always on hand by phone or email, prior to arrival, concerning recommended art materials. It is suggested that suitable protective clothing to guard against sun, rain and paint splashes is considered!
For those without their own transport, arrangements can be made in advance for collection from and delivery to our local station at Haslemere.
